Our Story . . .

Palomar Vista Farm is a “homey place” about ¼ mile down a bumpy dirt driveway in beautiful Valley Center, CA. After you pass the "Palomar Vista Farm" sign the road will become paved and bend to the left as you approach the log house. Some of the curious alpacas and llamas will probably be looking up at you from their field, or you may spot a few goats atop their favorite rock. As you enter the circle drive, you are likely to be greeted by Jake our trusted Rottweiler (whose best buddies are all the animals). Just ring the bell at the gate and we’ll start you on a tour and introduce you to all the animals. Before you leave, we will offer you a cool drink and invite you to enjoy the view of Palomar Mountain from a rocking chair on the front porch. We want you to enjoy our farm and see how our herd (small but growing) enhances its calm, serene atmosphere.

As an old "farm-boy" from Michigan, I enjoyed farming, the 4-H Club, and even all the hard work. However, my folks encouraged me to go to college, and I ended up becoming an engineer, moving west, and living in big cities. Although I was very successful, I always missed farm life. When my son was a small boy, we started a small avocado and protea farm in Vista, CA, which soon included horses, goats, chickens, ducks, peacocks, finches, Rottweilers, and even an old donkey named Wanda. We still reminisce about how important farm life was to his childhood.

Many years later, I found this great log house on 3-acres and quickly made it my retirement home. The land was mostly “wild” with coyotes running across the yard even during the day. I spent many months researching the best possible way to utilize the land. I still loved animals and I wanted to produce a small income, yet not work too hard, while doing something I enjoy. After seeing a few AOBA alpaca TV ads, I began researching alpacas on the Internet, picked up some literature at the County Fair, and began visiting breeders in the area. Soon I was convinced that alpacas were exactly what I had been looking for!

“Palomar Vista Farm” was soon in high gear--as barns, sunroofs, and fences were made ready for the “herd.” The pens were interspersed between the huge boulders, trees, and chaparral. All the animals have a great view of a canyon and Palomar Mountain, and I believe any alpaca would want to live here!

Nubian goats came to the farm first to help clear some of the land. They did an excellent job and now have moved into their special compound, called “goat hill.” Guard llamas, then alpacas followed. Each addition was more fun than the last. Before long, several new births added to the excitement. Nothing is more satisfying than watching a new life begin, and seeing how quickly the little ones grow up as they run and prance around the enclosure.

Recently several miniature donkeys joined the farm, and a newborn spotted jennet steals everyone’s heart. Miniature donkeys are born to be 'humble' and are very affectionate.

Our goal is simply to: “Help others experience the enjoyment of owning alpacas, or llamas” We provide as much assistance and knowledge as possible to help you start a new high quality herd, obtain outstanding new pets, or improve your existing herds.” We'll also help you select a perfect Rotweiller puppy or miniature donkey.
