Jake with the girls as puppies

Rottweilers

The Rottweiler is a steady dog, with a self-assured nature, extremely intelligent, loyal, affectionate, and with strong desire to please.

They are working dogs, and are happiest when they have specific daily tasks or duties to perform. For example, Jake (our champion quality male who recently passed away) loved to carry the daily paper from the end of our 1/4 mile driveway, and carefully place it on a front porch rocking chair each morning. For this, he received lots of praise and a "treat". On his own, he learned to bring my shoes downstairs (one at a time) and put them in my chair to encourage me to go outside with him or play ball. A previous dog, (Karl) would bring me my cap promptly at 4:00 each afternoon to announce that it was "time for a walk". The farm animals knew and trusted Jake, and he socialized with them in the pasture, sometimes taking his favorite red ball along to entice Twilight (the Llama).

In order to continue the excellent bloodline of Jake, I saved the best male and female (Josh and Pearl) from his Jake's and Julia's last litter.  They both have the intelligence and personality their parents.  Pearl took over her dad's job of bringing in the paper, and Josh is the official greeter, and loves to play ball and help feed the animals.

The keys to having a wonderful Rottweiler are good breeding and obedience training at an early age, 4 to 6 months, plus a lot of love. Even though you may feel that you know a lot about dog training yourself, it is important for them to socialize with other people and dogs at an early age. Young Rottweilers should also be exposed to loud city noises, big trucks, motorcycles, and crowds of people to instill self-confidence.

Although I have been involved with Rottweilers for about 30 years, my only regret is that I didn't learn about this breed sooner, having previously owned many other breeds - both large and small. There is nothing like 'hugging' your Rottweiler. They understand dozens of words, and communicate with their unique eye-contact and actions.  Rottweilers are exceptionally loving, and always try to comfort you if you are having a bad day.

We are proud of our success in of selective breeding for more excellent puppies--stressing confirmation and personality.  We are expecting some great litters soon. Be sure to 'bookmark' this website.
